Hideo Ōno

Hideo Ōno ( Japanese 大野 英 男 , Ōno Hideo , spelled Hideo Ohno in English publications; * December 18, 1954 ) is a Japanese physicist with a research focus on spintronics .

Ōno received from the University of Tokyo the BS 1977, the MS 1979 and the doctorate in 1982. In 1979 he was a year at Cornell University and went 1982 as a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering at Hokkaidō University . From 1988 to 1990 he was a visiting scientist at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center . In 1994 he was appointed professor at Tōhoku University.

Ōno is Professor at the Laboratory for Nanoelectronics and Spintronics, Research Institute of Electrical Communication and Director for Spintronics Integrated Systems at Tōhoku University. He is concerned with the phenomena of spins in semiconductors and in metallic nanostructures.
