Hieronimo Miani , also Hieronymus Miani (* Venice , bl. 1738–1746 in Copenhagen ; died after 1746) was an Italian history painter and etcher.

Life

Miani came to Denmark from Venice around 1739 and belonged to the circle of artists who were brought to life by King Christian VI. were called to Copenhagen to help with the construction of Christiansborg Palace . At the same time he became a professor at the (older) academy in Copenhagen and, after the death of Hinrich Krock in 1738 until 1745, together with the French sculptor Louis August le Clerc, its director. He left Denmark the following year and returned to Italy.

Miani made a large ceiling fresco and several figures in Christiansborg Palace. Its paintings were destroyed by the great castle fire. Only a few testimonies to his work in Copenhagen have come down to us, including a personal etching of a portrait of the Crown Prince and later King Friedrich V. The engraver Peter Cramer (1726–1782) engraved on his model. The painter Johannes Wiedewelt was one of his students. In 1740 he was commissioned to restore five ceiling paintings in Frederiksborg Castle . In 1744 he made two biblical paintings, which were intended for the entrance gallery of the church. None of his works survived.
