Hieronymus Haubold, (also: Haugwaldt ; * around 1535 in Frankenberg / Sa .; † 1579 in Eferding ) was a German educator and Lutheran theologian.

Life

Haubold studied from May 13, 1556 at the University of Wittenberg , in August 1558 obtained the academic degree of a Magister and in 1562 became professor at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Greifswald . In 1566 he took over the position of rector of the state school in Geringswalde and, as a Gnesiolutheran, had problems with August von Sachsen in 1568 , who persecuted him because of his theological attitude.

He fled to Mittweida , where his wife (née Flieher) was expecting their first child. Moving on via Weimar , he again accepted a position as rector in Regensburg . Yet he did not stay there long either. He moved on to Klagenfurt , where he suffered the same fate of rejection as before. He switched to the office of preacher, which he held until the end of his life. Haubold was involved in the denominational theological disputes of his time and represented the early Lutheran orthodox point of view of the pure teaching of Martin Luther . In his time in Geringswald he wrote a school chronicle.

The Formula Veritatis , published after his death in 1582 and written in Eferding , goes back to Haubold .
