The High Mobility Engineer Excavator ( English , analogously for highly mobile pioneer excavator , or HMEE for short ) is a backhoe loader from the British construction machinery manufacturer JCB tailored to the requirements of the military . The vehicle has been built in Savannah , in the US state of Georgia, since 2007 .

Structure and special features

The HMEE is based on the Fastrac model from JCB and is therefore able, unlike most other wheel loaders or backhoe loaders, to travel at over 80 km / h on paved roads, which means that the manufacturer meets the specifications of the US Army . This enables the HMEE to ride independently in military convoys and not need to be transported on a low-loader .

The vehicle weighs around twelve tons and is powered by a 200 hp diesel engine which, with its gearbox, allows a top speed of 88 km / h. The all-wheel drive and the steerability of both axles enable off-road mobility and tight turning circles. The standard ABS also increases safety on fast journeys.

The standard version of the wheel loader shovel holds 1 m³ and reaches a height of 3.7 m. The tail boom can dig up to four meters deep.

The dimensions of the HMEE were selected accordingly by the manufacturer so that it can be loaded into a Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.

commitment

The HMEE is used primarily by the US armed forces. End of 2007, the US Army signed a contract with JCB for the supply and maintenance of 800 vehicles worth 230 million US dollars . The plan was for the HMEE to be delivered by 2012.

In 2008 the British Armed Forces ordered £ 7 million worth of HMEE .

In 2010, the New Zealand Armed Forces received six HMEE.

Also in 2010, the Swedish armed forces signed a contract to buy ten HMEE.

In 2013, the Bundeswehr also received seven of these fast pioneering machines.
