High Water is a jazz fusion album by the US hip-hop producer El-P . The album was created in collaboration with the jazz formation The Blue Series Continuum , led by Matthew Shipp , and was released in March 2004 on the Thirsty Ear Recordings label .

Emergence

After the jazz pianist Matthew Shipp had heard El-P's album Fantastic Damage , released in 2002 , he suggested that El-P produce an album together. El-P agreed and work on High Water began in 2003. El-P does not rap on the album, High Water is his second instrumental album after Little Johnny from the Hospitul: Breaks and Instrumentals, Vol. 1 . El-P produced loose song structures that the musicians on The Blue Series Continuum improvised on . On the song When the Moon was Blue the only feature guest can be heard, El-P's father Harry Keys, also a jazz musician.

In addition to El-P, Matthew Shipp and Harry Keys, the following musicians worked on the album: William Parker , Guillermo E. Brown , Daniel Carter , Steve Swell and Roy Campbell, Jr.

El-P also released the song Intrigue in the House of India on his 2004 mixtape Collecting the Kid , on some pressings under the name Time is Running Out .
