El-P
El-P (born March 2, 1975 in Brooklyn , New York ; real name Jaime Meline ), also known as El Producto , is a New York hip-hop musician , producer, founder and former owner of the hip-hop label Definitive Jux , which released the albums Labor Days ( Aesop Rock ) and The Cold Vein ( Cannibal Ox ) in 2001 .
The Hot 97
In the success phase of New York underground hip-hop around the then underground label Rawkus Records , El-P was one of the first underground hip with his hip-hop formation Company Flow , which also included musicians Bigg Jus and Mr. Len -Hop sizes. Around the turn of the millennium there was a break with Rawkus, which is why the entire independent faction (including Sir Menelik, BMS and Kool Keith ) left the label, which was now more mainstream . Looking for a new creative home, Meline turned to Ozone Records , which had been interested in underground and independent hip hop for some time. In 1999 El-P released the second company flow album Little Johnny from the Hospitul: Breaks & Instrumentals Vol.1, which was created together with DJ and co-producer Mr. Len .
Definitive joke
Around 2000 Rawkus separated from the less successful artists, so that Company Flow broke up. Trying to learn from Rawkus' mistakes, El-P decided in 1999 (during the production of the second Company Flow album) to found his own label, Definitive Jux . The first publications already showed that the interest in rough and edgy hip-hop was unbroken. In 2001 Definitive Jux released Farewell Fondle 'Em, a homage to the label that had been run by Bobbito Garcia up to that point . In 2010, El-P announced in a blog post on the label's website that it would put Definitive Jux on hold for an indefinite period. Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 , his 2010 album, was released by Gold Dust Media.
Own albums
After the success of the first own publications, El-P completed his first own album Fantastic Damage in 2002 . Soaked in rusty red, this album gives the impression of a journey into a roughly ugly and precisely because of that beautiful world (Juice April '02). Furthermore, the instrumentals for Fantastic Damage and The Cold Vein were released separately.
In 2004 a jazz album called High Water by El-P was released on the Thirsty Ear label . Guests on the album include the Blue Series Continuum with free jazz musician Matthew Shipp and bassist William Parker as well as trumpeter Roy Campbell . El-P's father Harry Keys also made a guest appearance on the song When the Moon Was Blue .
Also in 2004 the album Collecting the Kid was released via Definitive Jux , a mix album on which instrumentals, new songs, the soundtrack for the film Bomb the System and a remix can be found. For the first time, El-P appears here together with Camu Tao as Central Services . The song Jukie Skate Rock was also featured on the soundtrack for the video game Tony Hawk's American Wasteland .
In 2007 El-P released the album I'll Sleep When You're Dead , on which, in addition to well-known guest contributions, musicians from the field of rock music, namely The Mars Volta and Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails , can be heard for the first time. Even Chan Marshall is listening to a song.
On August 3, 2010, the third part of El-Ps Megamix series Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 was released , from which the song Whores: The Movie was released as a free download in advance . For the first time the mix was a pure instrumental album, which was also available in stores. The first two parts could only be purchased at concerts.
In May 2012, the album RAP Music by Killer Mike , which was produced by El-P, was released. He also does a guest part on the song Butane (Champion's Anthem) .
Seven days later, El-P's third studio album, Cancer 4 Cure , was released in the United States . This is his first release on the Fat Possum Records label . Guest contributions are from Killer Mike , Mr Muthafuckin 'eXquire, Despot, Danny Brown, Paul Banks and Nick Diamonds.
