Hildegard Brem

Maria Hildegard Brem OCist (* 2. March 1951 in Vienna as Renate Brem ) is an Austrian Cistercian and abbess of the Abbey Maria Star Gwiggen .

Life

Renate Brem attended elementary school in the Sacré Coeur in Vienna-Rennweg (1957–1961) and the higher boarding school of the Federal Government of Vienna in Vienna (1961–1969). From 1969 to 1974 she studied mathematics, philosophy, psychology, pedagogy and theology at the University of Vienna for teaching at secondary schools and final exams. In 1975 she was awarded a Magistra of Natural Sciences and in June 1977 with a dissertation in mathematics, positions of n circles with 2 different sizes in the unit circle became Dr. Phil. PhD . She taught at grammar schools in Vienna and Hollabrunn (1975–1977). In September 1977 she entered the Mariastern-Gwiggen Abbey in Hohenweiler . She concluded her novitiate (1978–1979) with temporary profession on May 13, 1979. She took the religious name Hildegard. From 1979 to 1982 she was a temporary professed sister. On May 31, 1982 she made her solemn profession. In December 1982 she was appointed novice master . In 1995 she became sub-priority. In 2002 she became prioress. She was elected abbess of the monastery on March 3, 2005. On April 23, 2005 the Benediction took place with its motto : Ausculta - Hear . She is a lecturer in Cistercian studies and a member of the Institute for Spiritual Theology and Religious Studies at the Heiligenkreuz University of Applied Sciences . In 2017 she was awarded the Decoration of Honor of the State of Vorarlberg .
