The Gąsienicowa Turnia (German: Oberer Seealmturm or Gąsienica Tower) is a mountain in the Polish High Tatras with 2280 m in the Świnica massif . The border between the municipalities of Zakopane in the west and Bukowina Tatrzańska , specifically the district of Brzegi , in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the Powiat Tatrzański district runs at the top .

Location and surroundings

Below the summit are the five lakes , specifically its hanging valley Kegelkar ( Dolina pod Kołem ) in the east and Dolina Zielona Gąsienicowa , specifically its hanging valley Mylna Kotlinka in the west.

The Gąsienicowa Turnia is separated from the summit of Świnicka Kopa in the south by the Obere Seealmscharte ( Gąsienicowa Przełączka ) mountain pass , and the Mittlerer Seealmscharte ( Niebieska Turnia ) summit to the south by the Mittlere Seealmscharte ( Niebieska Przełączka Wyżnia ) mountain pass .

In the mountain there are two caves Świnicka Koleba and Świnicka Koleba Niżnia .

etymology

The Polish name Gąsienicowa Turnia can be translated as Gąsienica Tower . The name comes from the nearby Dolina Gąsienicowa valley .

Flora and fauna

Despite its height, the Gąsienicowa Turnia has a colorful flora and fauna. Numerous plant species occur, especially high alpine flowers and grasses. In addition to insects and mollusks and birds of prey, marmots and chamois also visit the summit.

The Gąsienicowa Turnia is popular with hikers and climbers. It is located on the main route from the upper cable car station on the Kasprowy Wierch to the Zawrat mountain pass , where the Orla Perć high-altitude path begins.

Routes to the summit

The hiking trail to Gąsienicowa Turnia leads along the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains and the Polish-Slovak border and turns north after the summit of Świnica .
