The Middle Tower ( Polish Pośrednia Turnia ) is a mountain on the Polish-Slovakian border in the High Tatras with 2128 m in the massif of the Seealmspitze ( Świnica ).

Location and surroundings

The state border runs over the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains , on which the Skrajna Turnia is located. Below the summit are two valleys, the Dolina Gąsienicowa , specifically its hanging valley Dolina Zielona Gąsienicowa , in the north, and the Smrecinertal ( Dolina Ciemnosmreczyńska ) in the south.

From the summit of the Randturm ( Skrajna Turnia ) in the west, the Middle Tower is separated by the Randjoch ( Skrajna Przełęcz ) mountain pass , and from the eastern summit of the Seealmspitze by the Seealmsattel ( Świnicka Przełęcz ) mountain pass .

etymology

The Polish name Pośrednia Turnia can be translated as Middle Tower . The name comes from the fact that the Pośrednia Turnia lies between the edge tower and the main peak.

Flora and fauna

Despite its height, the middle tower has a colorful flora and fauna. Numerous plant species occur, especially high alpine flowers and grasses. In addition to insects and mollusks and birds of prey, marmots and chamois also visit the summit.

The Pośrednia Turnia is popular with hikers. It is on the main route from the upper cable car station to the Kasprowy Wierch.

Routes to the summit

The hiking trail to the Middle Tower leads along the main Tatra ridge and the Polish-Slovak border.
