Bukowina Tatrzańska is a village in the powiat Tatrzański in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in southern Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with a little over 13,000 inhabitants.

Bukowina is a health resort with ski areas and the Terma Bukovina thermal bath . It has a share in the High Tatras , in particular in the Dolina Białki valley and its side valleys. Bukowina is located on the Białka River and the DK 49 expressway in the Podhale region .

history

The first written mention of the village comes from 1630. In 1881 there were 1107 people in Bukowina Tatrzańska. From 1975 to 1998 the village belonged to the now defunct Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .

Attractions

In Bukowina Tatrzańska there are some interesting wooden buildings in the Zakopane style , in particular the People's House built between 1928 and 1932 and the 19th century wooden church Herzjesu.

The village has been of national relevance since 2005 as a destination for skiing and as a starting point for hikes in the High Tatras . It is also known to tourists and spa patients for its Bukovina thermal bath , which has been in operation since December 6, 2008 ; Europe's largest thermal baths with an area of ​​around 5000 m². The water in the basins comes from a 2800 m deep borehole at a temperature of around 72 ° C.
