Hildegard Hansche
Hildegard Hansche (born October 12, 1896 in Mittenwalde ; † November 23, 1992 in Berlin ) was a German teacher and pacifist who was persecuted for her convictions during the Nazi era and interned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp .
Childhood, adolescence and young adult life
Hildegard Hansche grew up as the fourth child of the Hansche family. Her father, a Dachstein manufacturer, went blind and was therefore unable to finance a higher education or a degree for her. Nevertheless, she managed to complete a teacher training course, study and in 1925 catch up with the Abitur. In the same year she received her diploma in economics from the University of Mannheim , where she did her doctorate the following year with a thesis on trusts in the USA. During her studies she worked in educational and social positions to finance her studies.
Hildegard Hansche joined the SPD in 1926 . It was also influenced by Quakerism . Their pacifism and their social engagement were fed by both approaches, the Christian and the socialist.
Period of National Socialism and internment
Hildegard Hansche worked as a teacher during the National Socialist era. Even under these circumstances she tried to educate her students in the spirit of humanism and encouraged them to take a critical look. Her arrest came after she publicly confronted a student who spat on a Jew. She was denounced and interned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp for three years. There she belonged to the group around Gertrud Luckner , Eva Laubhardt , Katharina Katzenmaier and Änne Meier .
After the liberation
Hildegard Hansche worked again as a teacher in Luckenwalde after the end of the war and was promoted to school director and school councilor. In 1948 she moved to Singen , where she had a girlfriend. There she also worked as a teacher. In the 70s and 80s she was involved in the peace movement and was active in the association of those persecuted by the Nazi regime - the Association of Antifascists .
Hildegard Hansche Foundation
With the legacy of Hildegard Hansches, a foundation was set up in 1994 at her request , which supports non-profit associations, initiatives, youth groups, etc., the preservation and research of the anti-fascist legacy, the employment of young people with this legacy, their political education and education for democracy and Serve international understanding.
