Hildegard Ramdohr (* 1925 in Bendorf near Koblenz) is chairwoman of the support group for the restoration and preservation of the historic city fortifications of Aschersleben eV and since January 2012 an honorary citizen of the city of Aschersleben .

Life until 1990

Born Hildegard Gertrud Kuhnen in 1925, the eldest of three sisters, she moved to Aschersleben in 1938 with her father, who was an engineer at Junkers. She attended a Catholic school on Ramdohrstrasse and never joined the “ Association of German Girls ”. After graduating from high school, she completed a commercial apprenticeship at the Junkers factories and worked there as a commercial economist until the end of the war. In 1945 she moved to the destroyed Cologne, where she worked at the health department. In 1946 she returned to her family in Aschersleben. In October 1948 she married Gerhard Ramdohr . A year later, daughter Gabriele was born. Hildegard Ramdohr's parents and sisters left the Soviet occupation zone in 1949 , but she and her new family stayed in Aschersleben.

In 1985 her husband died after a serious illness. In the same year she retired from the grocery wholesale company, where she had worked for 33 years. Until the fall of the Berlin Wall she worked as a tour guide, although she was not allowed to travel abroad because, as an avowed Catholic, she was not a member of the SED and was considered politically unreliable.

After the fall of the Wall she took care of the members of the remaining Russian occupation forces in Cochstedt . Ramdohr organized food, practical help and collected donations.

Working in the sponsorship group

While a support group for the restoration and preservation of the historic city fortifications was still unthinkable during the GDR era, Ramdohr was able to promote its establishment in 1989 together with Siegrid Tabbert, Dorothee Mücksch and others. The founding event took place on June 20, 1990 in the council chamber of the town hall. Working in the sponsorship group became Hildegard Ramdohr's life's work. Thanks to her commitment, the initial capital of 1700 Ostmarks soon turned into larger sums, for which she and several supporters visited the still existing businesses to raise initial donations for renovation measures.

In July 1990 Ramdohr went with Siegrid Tabbert (Mayor of Aschersleben 1990–1994) to Hanover and Cologne and met former Aschersleber such as Richard Bestehorn, descendant of the former paper mill founder HC Bestehorn (honorary citizen of Aschersleben since April 1911), who supported the association through further donations and Support membership. At times the sponsorship group had over 300 members (as of 2012 around 185). In 1992 she replaced Siegrid Tabbert as chairwoman of the sponsorship group. In the beginning she still had her office at home, then in today's Montessori school on Herrenbreite, later the support group moved to the roundabout on Dr.-Wilhelm-Külz-Platz, which was the first of the city towers to be completely renovated.

The association account also grew with the help of the Sparkasse Aschersleben, which minted silver medals with Aschersleber motifs. A city guide with the title Aschersleben - Walk around the Old Walls by Gerald Große was published by Mitteldeutscher Verlag in 1993 , and a benefit concert with Deborah Sasson and Gunther Emmerlich was organized. All proceeds were used for measures to restore the historic city wall. Thanks to Hildegard Ramdohr, around 277,000 euros in donations and contributions were collected by 2012, which can be seen in the extent of the many renovated sections of the city fortifications. She still works today to support the association's employees, correspondence and bookkeeping. The current main concern of the support group is the north tower of the Stephanikirche and the old bell chair, which is why the ringing of bells was kept to a minimum.
