Hilmar Schmitt

Hilmar Schmitt (born December 28, 1942 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Schmitt completed his Abitur at the Friedrich-Dessauer-Gymnasium in Aschaffenburg and studied philosophy and law in Erlangen , Würzburg and at the administrative college in Speyer . Two study visits took him to Iran and Morocco . He was political advisor in the general student committee of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . Schmitt was an independent lawyer by profession. He was the founding chairman of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Aschaffenburg, member of the board of the Aschaffenburg tenants' association and honorary chairman of the Greek community in Aschaffenburg.

In 1965 Schmitt became a member of the SPD. He was district chairman of the Young Socialists Franconia, chairman of the SPD sub-district of Aschaffenburg and deputy chairman of the SPD district of Lower Franconia . From 1972 he was a member of the Aschaffenburg city council, where he was parliamentary group chairman from 1975 to 1983. From 1978 to 1998 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament .
