Hiltraud Casper-Hehne (born June 2, 1957 in Jever ) is a German German philologist, university professor and has been Vice President of the University of Göttingen since April 2009 .

Life

Casper-Hehne studied German , English and history at the Technical University of Braunschweig . She received her doctorate at the Institute for German Linguistics and her habilitation in 2003 . In April 2004 Casper-Hehne was appointed professor for intercultural German studies / linguistics at the Göttingen Philosophical Faculty.

As a scientist, Casper-Hehne deals with intercultural everyday and scientific communication, language didactics / language promotion, migration and integration as well as German as a second and foreign language. She developed several courses in "German as a Foreign and Second Language" to prepare student teachers for a heterogeneous classroom.

Casper-Hehne carried out numerous larger third-party funded joint projects: E.g. the EU projects on computer self-learning programs for European languages ​​for students, online language learning materials for specialists and executives or the EU projects IDIAL and IDIAL4P, in which regionalized language courses were developed for the exchange between Germany and Eastern Europe. In addition, she initiated the joint project “Interkultur” within the framework of the EU university program Asia-Link to promote cooperation between Europe and China. A binational master’s course with a double degree was implemented. Since 2018 she has headed the European research group funded by the VW Foundation to develop a World Humanities Report for UNESCO.

From 2007 to 2009 she was a member of the university's Senate. In April 2009 Casper-Hehne was Vice President for Research and International Affairs, in April 2012 Vice President for International Affairs of the University of Göttingen, re-elected there until 2023. Casper-Hehne supervised the legal, social sciences, theological, economic and medical faculties as well as the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. She is a member of the Philosophical Faculty. From 2009 to 2012 she was responsible for the implementation of the Excellence Initiative. In 2015 the university received the European Prize for Innovation in Internationalization for the internationalization strategy developed by Casper-Hehne with all status groups of the university.

Casper-Hehne heads the working group of the Lower Saxony Vice Presidents (responsible) for internationalization and developed an internationalization strategy for the Lower Saxony universities with them in 2020. The working group also developed recommendations for mobility during the Corona crisis in the winter semester 2020/2021.

Hiltraud Casper-Hehne has been a member of the Board of Directors of the European network U4 (Universities of Ghent, Göttingen, Groningen, Uppsala, Tartu) since 2013. From 2012 to 2014 she was a member of the board of the HERA network and from 2014 to 2016 a member of the Executive Board of the Coimbra Group . In 2014, she also headed the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research's Advisory Council on the Development of a China Strategy . She has been a member of the Language Advisory Board of the Goethe Institute since 2015 and a board member of the German Academic Exchange Service since 2016, re-elected until 2023. Since the beginning of 2018, she has been a member of the EU Ad-hoc Expert Group on European Universities.

From 2014 to 2016, Casper-Hehne was the overall project manager of the project , which she initiated, Shaping upheavals at the nine universities in Lower Saxony, which was dedicated to the mandatory integration of language promotion and language training into teacher training.

Since 2015 Casper-Hehne has headed the lighthouse project “Internationalization and Digitization of Curricula”, in which international, intercultural and global content is to be integrated into the curricula of all subjects in all courses at the University of Göttingen using digital tools. The aim is for all students at the University of Göttingen to be trained as “globally concerned citizens”. The project has been funded with around 2.2 million euros as part of the DAAD program "International Mobility and Digital Cooperation" since May 2020.

Hiltraud Casper-Hehne was awarded an honorary professorship on April 6, 2010 by the Beijing Foreign Studies University in Peking .
