Hinche is a Haitian city and capital in the Center department . The city has 42,693 inhabitants (2009 calculation), making it the largest city in the Center. It is located on the Guayamouc River , about 20 to 30 kilometers from the border with the Dominican Republic , which runs to the east and south-east of the city.
Economically, the city is mainly shaped by agriculture. The cultivation of coffee , cotton , sisal , sugar cane and fruits is important. In addition, cattle breeding , beekeeping and cotton processing are practiced.
Hinche is the seat of the Hinche diocese of the Roman Catholic Church, established in 1972 .
