Hinrich Grauenhorst

Hinrich Grauenhorst (born May 14, 1919 in Castrop-Rauxel , † May 3, 1998 in Schmallenberg-Jagdhaus ) was a German painter.

Life

Grauenhorst was born in 1919 in what is now Castrop-Rauxel . He attended elementary school there. He decided to go to high school in Moers in 1939 . Immediately after graduating from high school, he was drafted into military service. Seriously injured in Africa in 1942 , he returned to the front after recovering. He remained a soldier until June 1945. In 1927, his father Julius Grauenhorst bought a piece of land in the hunting lodge near Schmallenberg , which was initially used as a holiday resort and became a permanent residence from 1937. In 1938 Grauenhorst met Inge Ott, who became his wife in 1944. From 1950 to 1959, Grauenhorst studied in Paris . In 1984 he received a grant from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . He died in the Jagdhaus in 1998.

Works

Grauenhorst painted over 2000 pictures in his life. He was known for his Sauerland heads (watercolor and ink portraits) and the cycle of illustrations for Jan Potocki's novel "The Handwriting of Saragossa". Other works include a. 10 socially critical studies , the black / red series or the 68s , an example of meticulous design.
