Hiroshi Itagaki ( Japanese 板垣 宏志 , Itagaki Hiroshi ; born April 27, 1945 ) is a former Japanese skier who was active in ski jumping and Nordic combined .

Career

Itagaki made his international debut as a Nordic combined athlete at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble . In the individual he reached 10th place. After the games he began to concentrate more on special jumping, as he was able to draw attention to himself as the first or second in this sub-discipline during the games. He played his first tournament as a special jumper with the Four Hills Tournament in 1971/72 . After 29th place in Innsbruck , Itagaki jumped seventh in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and sixth in Oberstdorf on the Schattenbergschanze . With that he only reached 74th place in the overall tour, as he did not contest the jumping in Bischofshofen .

He traveled to the 1972 Winter Olympics in his home town of Sapporo as a special jumper and only competed on the large hill. He reached 19th place. At the Four Hills Tournament 1972/73 that followed in December , he started with rank 20 in Oberstdorf, before he reached rank ninth in Garmisch and Innsbruck rank 10. In his first competition on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen , he landed on the fifth place and thus achieved his best individual result. Itagaki finished the tour with 844.8 points in ninth place overall.

At the Four Hills Tournament 1973/74 , he could no longer build on the performances from the previous year. Itagaki finished his last tour in 89th place overall. He made his last international appearance at the age of 30 at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. After he reached 20th place on the normal hill, he only landed 33rd on the large hill.
