Hirticollis hispidus is a beetle from the family of flower sap beetles (Anthicidae).

features

The beetles of the species Hirticollis hispidus are 2.5 to 3 millimeters long. They are predominantly colored brown-black. The whole body of the beetle, including the legs, has long, protruding hairs. A yellow transverse band runs over the front third of the wing covers . The puncturing of the wing covers is sparse but coarser in the front area. The pronotum is lighter than the head. The antennae and palpi as well as the legs, with the exception of the femora, are colored yellow-red.

distribution

Hirticollis hispidus is widespread in southern Europe as well as in southern central Europe. The occurrence of the species extends over the entire Mediterranean area including the adjacent North Africa. The species is also represented on Madeira and the Canary Islands . In the east, the distribution area extends over the Near and Middle East (Iran) and the Arabian Peninsula to Central Asia .

Way of life

The species Hirticollis hispidus prefers low locations with sandy or gravelly soils, especially near water , as a habitat. The beetles are often found in the detritus .
