timeline

On May 12, 1853, Johann Hermann Büsing opened a general store in the Held family's old post office, which until then had been run by HR Schmidt. He married Johanne Helene Held in June 1854. Nine children were born from this marriage. Johann Hermann Büsing died in January 1908.

On July 16, 1891, Gustav Heinrich Büsing took over his father's business at the age of 31. The company was registered under JH Büsing Sohn, Abbehausen. In 1897 Gustav Büsing built the residential and commercial building at Butjadinger Strasse 101. The marriage with Mrs. Toni remained childless. He passed his life's work on to his long-standing right-hand man Elimar Freese, who had already started a business apprenticeship with Gustav in 1911. Gustav Büsing died on February 28, 1950.

On October 3, 1927, Elimar Freese, born in 1897, took over the business of his principal as owner. Elimar Freese became the owner in 1947. In May 1928 he married Alma Sophie Hinrichs. Their daughter Lisel was born in 1931 and their son Elmer in 1937. Elimar Freese died on November 22, 1965.

After Elmer Freese had worked as a commercial assistant at Carl Wilhelm Meyer in Oldenburg and finally at a general goods dealer in Melle, he was initially called up for the German Armed Forces. After military service, he returned to his parents' business. On July 1, 1965, Elmer Freese took over the management of the business. The foundation of the association for the preservation of the inventory of the company JH Büsing Sohn with Christian-S. Büsing (great-nephew of the company founder) was in November 1996. Elmer Freese died in February 2009.

After the death of her father, Tanja Schiller inherited the now listed residential and commercial building at Butjadinger Straße 101. The association for the preservation of the inventory of the JH Büsing Sohn company remained as a tenant of the exhibition rooms and continues to operate this museum area. The shop has been rented to the sister-in-law since January 2010 and is still operated as a shop. In 2016, Tanja Schiller partially renovated the residential and commercial building. The building project was funded by the German Foundation for Monument Protection , by EU funding from the LEADER funding and by the Oldenburg landscape .

museum

Since the establishment of the house, not only have all business papers and manufacturer's catalogs been kept, but also a wide variety of old original goods from the history of over 150 years. These are exhibited in a museum on the upper floors of the department store and can be viewed.

All objects and documents are scientifically evaluated in the department store's archive. The department store's library includes, in particular, specialist literature on the merchant profession, an extensive collection of local history literature from northern Germany and a large number of specialist genealogical literature. In the actual department store on the ground floor, over 3,000 everyday items are still sold, as well as a large number of yarns and knitwear.

Some of the museum's holdings of over 4,000 items have already been loaned for various film productions, for example for the Hollywood film “ The Reader ” with Kate Winslet , who plays a former concentration camp guard named Hanna Schmidtz and for whom sewing tools with the initials “ HS ”was found, and other objects also provided a fitting time color. Suitable props could also be found for the German feature films " Friedliche Zeiten " with Axel Prahl and Meret Becker and " Mogadishu Welcome " with Thomas Kretschmann .
