Location of Stollhamm in Lower Saxony

The village of Stollhamm is part of the municipality of Butjadingen in the Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony . It lies in the heart of the Butjadingen peninsula .

geography

The Stollhamm resort is surrounded by meadows, fields and small canals. In the center of the village there is a public park with lots of green. Due to the location of Stollhamm, this place often serves as a starting point for the North Sea baths.

history

Stollhamm 1579 as Stolham

The village is said to be 500 years old. In 1933 Stollhamm was incorporated into what was then Burhave . This was renamed Butjadingen in 1936 . When this community was dissolved in 1948, Stollhamm regained its independence. Since March 1st 1974 it belongs to the new municipality Butjadingen. South of Stollhamm was the Johanniterkommende Inte as well as the Kommende Witleke and Langewische .

Sights and nature

  • The “Art on the Dike” sculpture trail runs along the dike from Eckwarderhörne to Mariensiel . One of the works of art is in Beckmannsfeld near Stollhamm.

  • The Stollhammer Wiesenvogelschutzgebiet is an approximately 3000  hectare marshland area close to the coast . Endangered meadow bird species such as the black godwit , lapwing and redshank find shelter here.
  • At the Iffens environmental station, great value is placed on environmental education. In addition, many different projects on the subject of environmental protection and sustainability have already been implemented. Seminars, internships and lectures also take place regularly.

Sports

  • The table tennis youth teams of TV Stollhamm are nationally successful.
  • In various riding schools in and around Stollhamm there is the possibility to practice equestrian sport .

The largest employer in Stollhamm is the Oldenburg District Association, which operates a nursing home with around 90 places in Stollhamm .

Infrastructure Due to its favorable location, Stollhamm is the base of many rescue services . In addition to a fire brigade, there is a station from Johanniter Unfallhilfe , which is also used by the German Red Cross . The water rescuers of the DLRG Butjadingen are also stationed in Stollhamm . In the district of Mitteldeich, the II. Oldenburgische Deichband has built a coastal protection hall for disaster control . The drainage association also has its depot in Stollhamm.

traffic

Stollhamm is connected to the A27 via the Weser Tunnel south of Nordenham . Via Varel and Jaderberg you get to the A29 . Ferry connections exist over the Weser from Nordenham to Bremerhaven and in the summer months over the Jade Bay from Eckwarderhörne to Wilhelmshaven. There is a train connection to Bremen from Nordenham .

Stollhamm is connected to a 250 kilometer long cross-town and cross-community cycle path network and is therefore a good starting point for bicycle excursions.

education

The only primary school was closed at the end of the 2011/12 school year in July 2012. The building is used by clubs and companies.
