Construction measures at the beginning of the 21st century are:

  • Raising and strengthening the Augustgroden dike over a length of approx. 8 km.
  • The elevation of the dike at Blexer Groden.
  • The reinforcement of the city dyke in Brake by installing a cut-off wall up to NN -8m using a new, vibration-free construction method as well as the repair and raising of the flood wall by 30cm to NN + 7.30m.
  • The laying of the hunted dyke in parts as part of the further expansion of the lower Hunte under the leadership of the Bremen Waterways and Shipping Office.
  • Sheet pile wall from Hobenbrake to Schweiburger Mühle, with the dike heightening started.

The financing of dike heightening and reinforcement within the framework of the coastal protection program is regulated via an “extraordinary budget” and is currently 70% financed by the federal government and 30% by the state of Lower Saxony.
