Sinsum is on a Wurt . The place name probably goes back to a person called "Sinse". In the man number register of 1581, Sinsum appears with four men in armor, among other things. Fort Sinsum was built nearby during the First World War . The Sinsum / Burhave nature reserve is located north of Sinsum .

Sinsum has been part of the municipality of Butjadingen since 1974, before it belonged to the municipality of Burhave.
