The place Eckwarderhörne , formerly known as Eckwarderhörn (Hörn = corner), is located on the southwest tip of the Butjadingen peninsula in the Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony , Germany. The transition from the Jade Bay to the North Sea is at Eckwarderhörne .

The place is 1.5 kilometers southwest of Eckwarden . The city of Wilhelmshaven is directly opposite on the other side of the Jadebusen .
history
The Eckwarderhörn residential area in the Burhave office (from 1858 Stollhamm office ) east of the Jadebusen had no residents on July 20, 1853. On this day, Prussia signed the Jade Treaty with Grand Duke Nikolaus Friedrich Peter von Oldenburg, which was intended to regulate the "assumption of protection for the ships of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg by Prussia", in fact the Kingdom of Prussia area for the construction of a war port on the deep fairway the jade acquired. This jade area consisted of two parts on either side of the inner jade . To the west it was the marshland of the municipality of Heppens and to the east the Eckwarderhörn residential area. The administration of the Jade area was transferred to the Prussian Admiralty in 1854. On November 5, 1854, a provisional administration was set up. The Royal Prussian Admiralty Commissariat in Oldenburg was appointed as the competent higher authority . On May 14, 1855, the Prussian laws were introduced. On April 1, 1873, the Jade region became the city of Wilhelmshaven. As part of the regulations of the Greater Hamburg Act , the city of Wilhelmshaven ceded the Eckwarderhörn residential area to the former municipality of Butjadingen in the Oldenburg district of Wesermarsch in 1937 .
Fortifications
Due to its strategically important location at the entrance to the Jadebusen, Eckwarderhörne has been the site of military installations several times in history. In the 17th century, Denmark planned to build a coastal battery in Eckwarderhörne to protect Christiansburg . From 1810 to 1813 there was a French battery here . After Oldenburg ceded Eckwarden to Prussia , the dike battery Eckwarderhörne was built here to protect Wilhelmshaven . During the Second World War , the Eckwarderhörne heavy flak battery was located in Eckwarderhörne .
leisure
- Regularly from March to October there is the possibility to take part in a guided mudflat hike , during which interesting facts about the sensitive ecosystem of the Wadden Sea National Park are imparted.
- Cruises at sea are offered from Eckwarderhörne. Points of contact for this are the “Am Spieker” sports boat harbor , the ferry pier and the beach with the 200-meter-long pier.
- The sports offer includes surfing or surfing , paddling and fishing.
Transport links
There are ferry connections over the Weser from Nordenham to Bremerhaven and in the summer months over the Jade Bay from Eckwarderhörne to Wilhelmshaven and Dangast . There used to be a rail connection to Bremen via the Butjadinger Bahn . The community is connected to the A27 via the Weser tunnel south of Nordenham . Via Varel or Jaderberg you get to the A 29 . Bus connections only exist in the neighboring town of Eckwarden .
