The Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el ( Hebrew הִתְאַחְדוּת הַתֵּימָנִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל Hit'achdūt ha-Tejmanīm be-Jisra'el , German 'Union of Yemenites in Israel' , Russian Ассоциация йеменцев в Израиле ) was a political party in Israel .
history
The party was founded in 1923 by Yemeni Jews .
In the first election after the declaration of independence on January 25, 1949, the Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el successfully participated and gained a seat in the first Knesset .
Through the operation Magic Carpet many came in the years 1949/1950 Yemeni Jews to Israel. The Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el, however, was unable to win over these immigrants, and in the second elections on July 30, 1951, they only won one seat in the Second Knesset .
On September 10, 1951, the Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el united with the General Zionists (ha-Zionim ha-Klalijim). Shortly before the 1955 elections , which took place on July 26, Shimon Garidi separated from the General Zionists in order to reform the Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el. This step was not approved by the Knesset House Committee .
In the elections in 1955, the Hitachdut HaTeimanim beJisra'el was unable to secure a seat in the Third Knesset and failed because of the threshold clause , as was the case in the elections in 1959 (as a Yemeni parliamentary group ), 1973 and 1988 .
After the merger of the General Zionists and the Miflaga Progresivit on May 8, 1961 to form the Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit (Liberal Party), it achieved its best result with 17 seats in the 1961 election to the Fifth Knesset . The Miflaga Liberalit Jisra'elit formed an alliance with the Cherut under the name Gachal .
