Hive Destruction was a post-metal band founded in 2008 and disbanded in 2015 .

history

Former Amenra bassist Kristof J. Mondy and Matthias Halsberghe, guitarist of the group Liar , founded Hive Destruction in October 2008 as an experimental metal project. By August of the following year, eight entirely instrumental pieces had been created. The musicians selected four pieces and distributed them as a demo on their Myspace page. After the demo was positively received, Mondy and Halsberghe formed a permanent band line-up until September 2009 in order to be able to appear live. The musicians who were brought in, Filip Maelbrancke and Bert Guillemont, both played with Halsberghe at Liar before. Maelbrancke took over the sampling and another guitar, Guillemont the drums. Until the spring of 2010, the group rehearsed and worked out further joint material. In March and April Hive Destruction gave their first concerts and received mostly positive feedback. Hive Destruction reacted to the success with a second demo, which was again distributed via Myspace.

In 2010 the band intensified their efforts to get an official release, which was to use the material from both demos. The group's efforts culminated in January 2011 in the first official recordings in the form of a split - EP with the French screamo band Alceste . Both groups each contributed three titles to the EP, which is distributed by a conglomerate of several companies. In April, the planned, revised and newly recorded compilation of the previous demo recordings Secretvm / Veritas followed via the American independent label Init Records . The album contained two previously unreleased pieces. Another split EP was released in May, this time with Amenra via Init Records and produced by Billy Anderson and Hein Devos . This time the groups involved only contributed one piece each. After this release and a few sporadic appearances, there were no further concerts or publications until 2013. It was not until 2013, with the announcement that Mondy had left the band and replaced by Bert Vandekendelaere, that the work on new material was made public. The self-titled album was self-published in 2015 as the group's last release. The album included vocals for the first time on three of six tracks. With the release of the album, Hive Destruction were dissolved.

style

Already at the beginning of the band's existence, Mondy and Halsberghe formulated a style idea to which the group remained faithful until they broke up. The riffing should be based on Crowbar , Old Man Gloom , Neurosis and Isis , but fall back on atmospheric acoustic elements as well as extreme electronic distortions and convey a sad groove .

In addition to the regular instrumentation, the group makes use of a large number of samples ; in addition to sound effects, excerpts from feature films and political discussions are used. These sound fragments were placed on top of the music in several layers. Singing was first used on the second and final album, Hive Destruction .
