Hjørring Vestbanegård ( German Hjørring Westbahnhof ) was a train station in the Danish town of Hjørring . The building was designed by Sylvius Knutzen .
history
The station was built in 1913 as the operating center for the Hjørring – Løkken – Aabybro Jernbane and the Hjørring – Hørby Jernbane , which operated together from their opening in the same year. In 1925 the Hirtshalsbane was added.
The station had four through tracks that all companies used. The tracks to the north led to Løkken and Hirtshals , to the south Hørby was reached. In addition, there were warehouses with loading tracks, repair and sidings, workshops, machine stores and the head office.
A connection with the state train station of the Danske Statsbaner existed via a track that branched off to the east in front of the Westbahnhof.
modification
In 1939 the Hjørring – Hirtshals railway was given an international train connection with the Nordpilen express train, which ran the Hirtshals / Frederikshavn - Flensburg line . Since the onward journey to Hirtshals was only possible with a cumbersome sawtooth drive, this was the trigger for the private railway to use DSB's Hjørring station instead of its own western station in the future.
After extensive renovation work, the trains to Hørby left the state railway station on May 19, 1942. The trains to Løkken followed from August 11, 1942, and from October 3, 1942, the trains to Hirtshals could be run via the state railway station. The former connecting track was used as an approach from the state train station from the west. The trains to Løkken and Hirtshals circumnavigated the city on the west side on a new line that split after about 1.5 kilometers. The route to Løkken merged into the respective old route at about 2.0 km, the one to Hirtshals at 3.0 km.
Then Vestbanegård was closed and shut down as a train station. The workshops of the private railways continued to operate. The Banegraven road was laid on the superfluous embankment between Åstrupvej and Løkkensvej .
The station building was at the end of the street that is still called Vestbanegade . In 1973 the attic of the station burned down. The building was then demolished. Today there is a supermarket in its place.
