The Hlinka Gretzky Cup 2018 was the 28th edition of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament , an ice hockey tournament for junior national teams in the U18 age group. It took place for the first time under this name from August 6 to 11, 2018 in Edmonton and Red Deer in the Canadian province of Alberta . Record winner Canada won their 22nd gold medal by beating Sweden in the final . The bronze medal went to the Russian selection .
mode
The eight participants were divided into two groups of four teams each. In the group stage, each team played once against all other group participants and thus played three games. The respective group first and second qualified for the semi-finals, which, like the final, was played as a knockout game .
