The Hobbythek was a regular monthly program on changing topics from the field of science in everyday life , which was mainly produced by WDR from 1974 to 2004. The program concept was committed to the do-it-yourself idea. The program was broadcast in many third party programs in Germany. In addition to the 266 programs produced by WDR, 47 programs were produced by NDR from 1976 to 1988 , 37 programs by BR from 1978 to 1993 and three programs by ORB from 1995 to 1996 .

Moderation

The best known presenter of the 345 programs was Jean Pütz , together with changing co-presenters. Co-inventor and co-host from 1974 to 1981 was Wolfgang Back , who later directed the television program Computerclub . The agricultural engineer Sabine Fricke was often involved as co-moderator.

In the last few years of production, the Austrian TV and radio chef Marco Krainer was specifically responsible for presenting specially developed recipes from a wide range of topics in the programs.

The expression comes from the series

"I've prepared something."

- Jean Pütz : Hobbythek

history

Initially, it was mainly craft issues that were addressed. Recently, the programs have concentrated more and more on topics that play a role in everyday life. A lot of technical and practical information was presented in the programs, which should enable a healthy and environmentally friendly life.

A free hobby tip was published for each program, which could be sent by post or downloaded later from the Internet . 37 Hobbythek books have been published on more extensive topics. Jean Pütz runs an online shop for Hobbythek products and also sells Hobbythek books there.

subjects

The Hobbythek became known through some topics, as research was carried out for many programs to improve everyday life. For example, a modular detergent system has become known , which makes it possible to dispense with ready-made detergents from the trade. For this purpose, a targeted search was carried out for active ingredients that both work well and are environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

There were also numerous recipes for making personal care products. Here, many ingredients in commercially available products that have side effects have been replaced with alternative ingredients. Also known are the frusips, an abbreviation for fruit syrup . In addition to fruit concentrates , they only contain fructose , but no refined sugar , which consists of sucrose . The "Hobbythek products" were initially only available in a few specialized shops and pharmacies, but later increasingly also in special chain stores, for example Spinnrad .

Hobbythek's philosophy has always been that the employees have not drawn any further profits from their developments. Developments and inventions were always made available free of charge to companies that wanted to produce and sell them. The prerequisite for using the names introduced by Hobbythek is compliance with the Hobbythek recipes that were presented in the program and the Hobbythek books.

The program was discontinued in 2004

The Hobbythek programs were discontinued in 2004 by the editor Ranga Yogeshwar , who was then responsible for the science branch of the WDR , against the resistance of Jean Pütz. Pütz would have liked to see the Hobbythek program continued in the form of an extended show with a suitable presenter after he left WDR . But Yogeshwar and the younger science editors rejected this because, in their opinion, the concept of the program no longer suited a higher-rated “infotainment”. In a WZ interview on March 20, 2004, Pütz reacted disappointed that Yogeshwar, who was promoted by him, was now throwing stones in his way and forbidding him from publishing Hobbythek books and developing recipes.
