Ellen Norten

Ellen Norten (born May 30, 1957 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German journalist , author and editor .

Life

Ellen Norten first learned the profession of pharmaceutical technical assistant. After graduating from high school at the Cologne College , she studied biology at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and completed her studies with a doctoral thesis on parasites in insects.

After completing her studies, she found a field of activity in science journalism, initially with the Deutschlandfunk program “ Forschung aktuell” , later also with other public radio and television broadcasters, where she reported on the latest advances in research. From the mid-1990s she worked mainly for WDR, both for the show Globus and for Hobbythek , with the latter also as a co-presenter in front of the camera. During this time a dozen non-fiction books and guides were written.

From 2001 to 2010 Ellen Norten was a permanent editor at Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich. Here she was responsible for the programs IQ - Science and Research on Bayern2 and for B5 from science and technology , and she also interviewed scientists in the television program alpha-Forum on the BR-alpha channel (now ARD-alpha ).

In 2010 she quit her job and began to travel the world with her current husband in a motorhome. The result of these trips was the travel book How I see the world , published in 2015 under the pseudonym Conni Mainzelmann . On the side, Ellen Norten writes short stories that have been published in various magazines and anthologies, and is also the editor of anthologies. She also writes reviews, especially for Kultura-extra, participates in poetry slams and won first place at the Berlin Science Slam in October 2017.

Until his death in 2003, Ellen Norten was married to the writer and small publisher Hubert Katzmarz , whose writing and publishing work she accompanied. As the widow of Hubert Katzmarz, she looks after his literary estate, in 2013 she published her deceased husband's complete works. In 2018 Daedalos was also published 1994–2002. A literary journey through the “Story Reader für Fantastik” , which she published together with Michael Siefener .
