Hubert Katzmarz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hubert Katzmarz (born November 3, 1952 in Recklinghausen ; † October 23, 2003 in Bonn ; pseudonyms: Bertram Kuzzath , Zamburt Zarthek ) was a German writer and publisher who mainly published works of fantastic literature and science fiction .

Life

Hubert Katzmarz was born in Recklinghausen in 1952 and grew up in Castrop-Rauxel and Gelsenkirchen. After graduating from high school, he first studied German and English in Essen , later communication sciences , computer science , phonetics and linguistics in Bonn. Together with the Bochum Romance Studies professor Alfons Knauth and his students, he pioneered the literary group and magazine Dichtungsring in 1979 , which was founded in Bonn and Bochum in 1981 .
After an interruption of studies due to the civil service and the surprising death of his professor Gerold Ungeheuer in 1982, he decided to devote himself entirely to literary work. He was initially involved in the 84th Bonner Literaturverein eV group and founded his own small publishing house in 1987 (initially under the name Die Mücke ), in which, for example, the first four issues of BLitZ - Bonner literary newspaper appeared. Another of the publisher's magazine projects was DON QUIXOTE. Bonn culture notes .
In collaboration with Andreas Fieberg, Hubert Katzmarz published detective novels as well as science fiction novels and collections and anthologies from the fantastic area, the latter genre becoming increasingly important. The publishing program included Udo Weinbörner , Michael Starcke , Karl-Heinz Berndt , Jörg Weigand , Christoph Güsken , Giorgos Krommidas , Manuel van Loggem , Monika Niehaus-Osterloh and Michael Siefener . With the magazine Daedalos , edited with Michael Siefener, he offered authors and readers a forum for fantasy.
Due to illness, he had to close his publishing house (now vhk - Verlag Hubert Katzmarz ) in 1996. He devoted himself entirely to his own literature, published in journals and magazines such as Fantasia and Fleurie as well as in anthologies and also translated texts by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu , William Hope Hodgson , Isaac Crookenden and Rhoda Broughton into German. The first audio book with a selection of his stories emerged from the encounter with the Bonn-based actor and graphic artist Thomas Franke .
Hubert Katzmarz was married to the entomologist, science journalist and science slammer Ellen Norten , whom he had already met in 1974.
