Group 84. Bonn Literature Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Group 84. Bonner Literaturverein e. V. was a Bonn association of authors that was formed around the literary magazine Bonnmot . His activities, along with those of the city's other literary associations, shaped the Bonn literary scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Emergence

The group 84. Bonner Literaturverein e. V. was founded in 1984 in the context of the German Studies Department of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn by Hans Altmeyer, David Boventer , Heike Friauf, Johann-Christian Gleisberg , Bettina Knief, Markus Rettich and Kerstin Wenzel. The entry in the register of associations at the Bonn District Court was made on March 28, 1985 under the number VR 5134. The name of the association should ironically allude to Group 47 , but beyond that, no explicit conceptual parallels to the historical model were formulated.

Most recently , the chairman of the board was Udo Weinbörner , the deputy chairman and treasurer was Waltraud Post, and the secretary was Andreas Fieberg.

Goal setting

According to its own account, the association's concern was to promote German literature, especially those who “are only just beginning to produce literature and are dependent on active support”. The group therefore naturally turned primarily to non-established, non-professional authors.

Publications of the association

The first purpose of the association was to publish the literary magazine bonnmot ( proper spelling : bon n mot ), of which a total of five issues appeared in the course of its existence (the last as a double issue). Quotation from the preface to the first edition: “bonnmot contains articles that want to convey thoughts and feelings through or in the form of literature. bonnmot should be read with care and understanding. Bonnmot causes difficulties. bonnmot essentially contains pieces by amateurs. (...) Bonnmot wants to move. bonnmot is not in line with the times. (...) Group 84 is not up-to-date, not established and is out of line. The group 84 then imagines something. Group 84 is conceited. (…) Group 84 asks you to read bonnmot in peace and to enter into an inner dialogue with the writers. That is the point. "

The line-up of the editorial team changed several times. From 1985/1986 Hans Altmeyer, Johann-Christian Gleisberg and Markus Rettich were left of the founding members, while Andreas Fieberg, Michael Grote, Martin Heiermann and Hans Reichert were added. After the majority of the members left the editorial team from 1987 onwards, the editorial team consisted of Andreas Fieberg, Birgit Metzler and Irmtraut Petersson .

In addition to bonnmot , there was a series of bonnmot reading books that comprised four numbers, one of which was entitled Bonn literary. Stories and poems of Gruppe 84 , an anthology with 27 Bonn authors.

Other club activities

The association appeared in public with numerous readings between 1986 and 1988; almost 30 appearances were recorded for the period mentioned. The outstanding event was the event NRW - Nordrheinische Words , which took place on April 26, 1986 in what was then the Bonn Center on Bundeskanzlerplatz with the participation of prominent guests such as Josef Reding , Jörg Bong , Ernst-Edmund Keil , Michael Starcke , Ludwig Verbeek and Volkmar Zühlsdorff .

For authors who were not involved in the publications or the events, there were regular open meetings at which texts were presented and discussed.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the association stopped its activities.
