The Kölnische Rundschau is a regional, independent daily newspaper for the Cologne / Bonn area . It is published by Cologne-based Heinen-Verlag with its own local editorial team. In the course of the first quarter of 2010, the production of the jacket was gradually taken over by the editorial team of the Bonner General-Anzeiger . The circulation reported together with the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger is 228,154 copies, a decrease of 45.6 percent since 1999.
The title and publishing rights have been held since 1999 by the M. DuMont Schauberg publishing group , which publishes the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and the Express . Every Friday the Rundschau includes the TV magazine Prisma . In the past, the Kölnische Rundschau was considered to be conservative compared to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, which was classified as left-wing liberal .
history
The Kölnische Rundschau was founded by the journalist and local politician Reinhold Heinen (1894-1969) and first appeared on March 19, 1946. Heinen, who was imprisoned for four years in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the Nazi era , received license holders from the British occupying power granted permission to publish a CDU- affiliated newspaper, but only accepted it after its journalistic independence was ensured. This led to constant conflicts with Konrad Adenauer in the following two decades . One of the co-founders was the lawyer and politician Hugo Mönnig . In 1948 the attempt of a national edition as Allgemeine Kölnische Rundschau began , which led to a loss of millions and failed with the discontinuation of this paper in 1950. In 1952 the traditional paper Bergische Landeszeitung ( Bergisch Gladbach ) , founded in 1890, was taken over by Heider Verlag , and in 1955 the Oberbergische Volkszeitung . After the death of the newspaper founder Reinhold Heinen in 1969, his adoptive son-in-law Heinrich Heinen (1921–2008) became the sole editor of the Rundschau.
Since October 1949, the then competitor DuMont Schauberg was allowed to publish the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger again . The initially violent journalistic and economic dispute between the two publishing houses has been replaced by an increasing cooperation since the 1980s. 1982 DuMont took over a share in the Heinen publishing house. Even after DuMont took over the publishing rights in 1999, the editorial team remained independent. The publisher has been Helmut Heinen , grandson of the founder and former President of the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers, since May 8, 2000 .

The edition of the Kölnische Rundschau has been reported by the M. DuMont Schauberg publishing house together with the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger since 1999 . The two newspapers have lost a lot of circulation in recent years . The number of copies sold has fallen by an average of 3.6% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 4.6%. It is currently 228,154 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 82.7 percent.

Local parts
The Kölnische Rundschau has local editorial offices that publish eight different versions, each with a different local section. From the southern area - Ahrweiler district with the local editorial office of the Rhein-Ahr-Rundschau - the newspaper withdrew entirely on May 1, 2005. In the Oberbergischer Kreis, she was the market leader even before the withdrawal of the local editorial staff of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger (Cologne City Gazette ) (although this was disguised by a cooperation obligation of the houses) . In 2014, the local editorial offices of the Kölnische Rundschau and the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger were outsourced to an external company and produced content for both newspapers. Only in Cologne, Leverkusen and Bonn are there still independent local editorial offices.

Editorial and department head
In the first few years, the editor-in-chief was temporarily headed by the publisher Reinhold Heinen, Hans Rörig and Karl and Edmund Pesch . Rudolf Heizler, who also lectured journalism at the University of Mainz, was editor-in-chief for over a decade. From 1974 to 1979 Anton Sterzl was editor-in-chief. He was followed by Jürgen C. Jagla until his death in 1992 . His successor was Dieter Breuers , who was replaced by Jost Springensguth after he retired in 2000 . This left the paper in the summer of 2009 to devote himself to communication tasks. Engelbert Greis and Cordula von Wysocki then headed the editorial team. This also took over the new editor-in-chief of the local editions. Greis retired at the end of 2015.
