The Hochfelder See is a lake in the district of Plön in the German state Schleswig-Holstein, northwest of the village of Warnau and south of the village of Kirchbarkau . It has a size of 13 hectares and an average depth of 1.6 meters. The lake has a tributary in the south and drains in the northwest into the Bothkamper See, then over the Eider into the North Sea . To the west of the lake is the Bothkamper See , south of the Viehteich .

Emergence

The lowland in which the lake is located today was created during the last ice age, when hollows formed under the ice that filled with water after it melted. Over time, the lake silted up more and more.

Lütjensee and Hochfelder See nature reserve southeast of Gut Bothkamp

The lake is part of the 155 hectare nature reserve Lütjensee and Hochfelder See southeast of Gut Bothkamp . On the eastern bank, a hiking trail leads from Warnau through the pasture landscape belonging to the nature reserve close to the lake. The lake itself is difficult to see due to the strong siltation zones with partly dense reed stock and the surrounding fenced-in meadows with robust cattle. The western shore of the lake is characterized by swamp forests .
