The Beimbach flood retention basin (Beimbachspeicher) is a reservoir near Beimbach , a district of Rot am See in the district of Schwäbisch Hall ( Baden-Württemberg ), which serves to protect against floods and dams the Jagst tributary in Brettach . It is located about 2.8 km east of Gerabronn and belongs to the Brettach water board.

The reservoir is located between the districts on the Gerabronn-Rückershagen plateau in the north-west and Rot am See- Beimbach in the south-east in the narrow shell limestone Kerbtal of the Brettach and therefore has a much less than 100 meters wide, almost 1.0 km long and - because it lies in the area of a bend in the valley - sickle-shaped plan. The target is at 359 m above sea level. NN . Its catchment area of approx. 156.9 km² on the surface is located in a karst area with streams and dry valleys, which has been proven to drain underground to neighboring rivers and streams. In the upper part, the municipal boundary follows the middle of the lake, the lower part belongs entirely to Rot am See.
The flood retention basin has a dam made of bulk material as a barrier structure . The facility was renovated from 1997 to 2001. Another retention basin of the Brettach water association is the Bemberg am Blaubach flood retention basin .
Fishing in the reservoir is possible with a permit.
history
Before the reservoir was set up, in the arch of the valley northwest of Beimbach, on a small island in the Brettach, salty springs rose from the Middle Muschelkalk , which was only a dozen meters below the creek bed in the Upper Muschelkalk . In the 18th century a salt works was operated here with moderate success. A settlement on the "former Salzbronnen an der Brettach", which existed for a long time afterwards, became deserted by the beginning of the 20th century, the remains of which disappeared when the reservoir was built.
