The Hoechst-color road is an important link road to the west of Frankfurt, between the districts high and Sindlingen . It is named after the colorants that helped the former Hoechst AG to gain its international reputation. The spelling “Höchst Farbenstrasse” is often used incorrectly.

history

Long before the Hoechst factory premises existed, the Landstrasse led to Mainz south of Hoechster-Farben-Strasse from Höchst to Sindlingen . With the development of the area by the industrial plants, this street lost its rural character and was named after the co-founder of Hoechst AG, Adolf von Brüning , Brüningstrasse. The western part was named Farbenstrasse .

To the north of today's Hoechster-Farben-Strasse, the Taunus Railway (Höchst– Kastel ) was laid out in 1839 .

In the 1950s, Hoechst AG decided to close the factory premises to public transport. This made a new route from Höchst to Sindlingen necessary. Initially, a footpath called An der Chinischen Mauer led along the northern factory wall . Frankfurt had already committed itself to improving it in the unification agreement with the city of Höchst of January 19, 1928. Now the street on the Great Wall of China was to be expanded into the "New Color Street ". One roundabout each was created in Höchst (Leunakoden) and Sindlingen. In 1954 the road could then be opened.

course

The road runs largely parallel to the Taunus Railway in the northwest and the Höchst Industrial Park in the southeast. At the Frankfurt-Sindlingen train station, it bends south and ends at a junction with Bundesstraße 40 . The Sindlinger Kreisel divides the road into two different sections.

Leuna knot - Pfaffenwiese

The Hoechster-Farben-Strasse begins at the so-called Leunakussy in Höchst and continues there with the Adolf-Haeuser-Strasse as it crosses the Liederbacher Strasse / Leunastrasse . The Liederbach flows under the junction . In this section, the street forms the boundaries between Höchst (south) and Unterliederbach (north). After just under a kilometer, there is the bridge over the Pfaffenwiese , which crosses the Taunus Railway and Main-Lahn Railway towards Zeilsheim .

After a further 500 meters at the height of the track triangle of the two railway lines, the road passes under a railway bridge that connects the Main-Lahn-Bahn with the internal railway network. In a sharp left turn, Hoechster-Farben-Strasse reaches the southern part of Sindlingen and the roundabout there. Here the Sindlinger Bahnstrasse crosses the course of the road.

Western section

At Sindlingen train station

Under the north-western bypass of Sindlingen-Süd, the road branches to the international school in the Ferdinand-Hofmann-Siedlung , Westenbergerstrasse to the southern center of Sindlingen and Im Hofheimer Grund to Hattersheim follow . In the last section of the street, the turning loop of city bus routes 53 and 55 runs parallel to this.

Buildings

North Gate

Hoechster-Farben-Strasse has only five house numbers (2, 4, 5, 15 and 27), all of which are in the Sindlingen district. Nevertheless, it is largely built up. The most striking structure in the eastern section is the factory wall of the Höchst industrial park , which runs along the road for over 2 km. It is popularly known as the "Great Wall of China".

The Farbwerke and Sindlingen train stations are also on the street, although the latter is not accessible from there. In Sindlingen there is the West Gate of the industrial park, which can only be reached in a lower position via its own access road and a pedestrian tunnel below Hoechster-Farben-Strasse. There are also two petrol stations and the fire station of the Sindlingen volunteer fire brigade in the district . The Hermann-Brill-Siedlung and Viktoria Sindlingen's sports field are also in the immediate vicinity of the street.

traffic

The Hoechster-Farben-Straße has four lanes and is part of two state roads . The L3006 runs over the eastern section, while the western section is part of the L3265. It is used by bus routes 55 to the Sindlinger roundabout and 54 to Pfaffenwiese from Leuna node.

For the most part, a speed limit of 60 km / h is required on the road. Because of the generous development status, this limit is often exceeded, which has often led to serious accidents, especially in the area of the tight bend in Sindlingen.
