The farm of the Courbet family ( La ferme Courbet in French ), also called the Flagey farm , is the farm on which the family of the painter Gustave Courbet lived in Flagey , in the French department of Doubs . One part of the courtyard now houses special exhibitions, while guest rooms have been set up in another part.

history

The Flagey farm belonged to the family of the painter Gustave Courbet .

It was bought from the municipality of Flagey by the General Council of the Doubs Department (Conseil Général du Doubs) for the symbolic price of one euro. After the renovation in 2008, the farm was inaugurated in July 2009 and is now part of the cultural project Home of Courbet, artist home ( Pays de Courbet, Pays d'artiste ).

The Courbet family farm today

Today there is a museum, an exhibition hall and a guesthouse in the courtyard. The courtyard is surrounded by a well-designed vegetable garden in which a large number of plant species can be seen. Entry is free.

The largest and most important room in the courtyard is the old barn, which was set up as a hall for special exhibitions. Exhibitions and some other cultural events are held in the barn.

The Courbet family's farm has also been offering accommodation since 2010, in the form of three guest rooms. There is also a literary café, the “Café de Juliette”, named after the painter's sister, where you can consume regional products and at the same time take part in works about Courbet and other subjects related to the painter such as art and politics of the 19th century Century can scroll.
