The Hof te Zande Kerk is an early Gothic Protestant Uniate parish church in Kloosterzande , a district of the municipality of Hulst in the Dutch province of Zeeland . It was originally a Cistercian chapel and is the order's best-preserved sacred building in the Netherlands.

history

In the 13th century, the Cistercian Abbey Ten Duinen in West Flanders (today Belgium ) in Hontenisse (today a district of Hulst) founded a dependent court with an early Gothic chapel. The courtyard was devastated by the Geusen in the course of the Eighty Years War in 1577 and the chapel was badly damaged except for the eastern parts of the building. In 1609 it was rebuilt as the parish church of the later rural community of Hontenisse, the center of which is Kloosterzande, using building materials from the ruined courtyard buildings. In 1648 the Reformed worship service was introduced in the congregation. From 1922 to 1924 the church was completely renovated. The parish belongs to the uniate Protestantse Kerk in Nederland, which was created in 2004 .

The best preserved part of the original building from the 13th century is the three-sided closed choir with its eastern end wall, which is divided by seven lancet and a small round window and testifies to the simple construction of the Cistercians. The structure shows two lancet twin windows erected in pairs with a lancet triple window above. The round window forms the upper end. The southern choir wall shows a pointed arch frieze below the roof approach. The closing of the choir is a significant example of the Order's architecture in Flanders .

organ

The organ goes back to an instrument that was built in 1927 by the organ builder A. Standaart in the existing case of the predecessor organ from 1842 ( organ builder Preuninger & Mennes). The instrument originally had 4 registers on one manual and has since been expanded. Today the slider chest instrument has 7 registers on a manual (C – f 3 : Prestant ( D ) 8 ′, Holpijp (B, D) 8 ′, Prestant 4 ′, Fluit 4 ′, Quint (B, D) || 3 ′, Octaaf 2 ′, Cornet (D) III). The pedal (C – d 1 ) is attached. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
