Brewery in Traunstein

The Hofbräuhaus Traunstein was founded in 1612 by the Bavarian Duke and later Elector Maximilian I as the "White Preyhaus" and has been owned by the Sailer family since 1896. Josef Sailer, a brewery owner from Lauingen, bought the Hofbräuhaus Traunstein for his son Josef, who quickly turned it into a flourishing company, and the beers spread far across the local Chiemgau region. Today the management is in the hands of Maximilian Sailer. Hofbräuhaus Traunstein has had its headquarters and production facilities in Traunstein's old town since it was founded in 1612. The brewery with 27 permanent employees and around 30 freelancers generates annual sales of over 12 million euros with an output of around 110,000 hl of beer and non-alcoholic beverages.

history

For the Wittelsbach ruler Maximilian I, who claimed the wheat beer monopoly, the new “White Preyhaus” generated income to balance the budget and to pay off the debt that he inherited from his father. The authorization for the further use of the prefix Hof in the company name is still derived from this princely connection . Under the last electoral leadership, the Hofbräuhaus passed to Leopoldine , the widow of Elector Karl-Theodor , who died in 1799 . Soon after the secularization , when the new Kingdom of Bavaria acquired many church breweries, they wanted to get rid of this brewery.

In 1806, Franz Reiter from Munich acquired the brewery including wheat beer brewing rights. In 1821 it came to Joseph Windmassinger from Runding near Cham , who bought it together with the lawyer Hutter. In addition to wheat beer, dark brown beer was immediately produced. They owned the Hofbräuhaus together until Windmassinger's death. After his death in 1840, Hutter, a member of the state parliament, bequeathed the brewery (the right to drink and drink) to his son Alois Hutter, who was also a lawyer.

The Hofbräuhaus remained in the possession of Alois Hutter until 1896, who had no descendants. In 1896 Josef Sailer, brewery owner from Lauingen and father of three sons and a daughter, bought the brewery. Since this takeover, the Hofbräuhaus has been owned by the Sailer family.

In 1919 the Sternbräu estate and the Bach brewery were acquired. In addition, Fritz Sailer, who took the place of his late father Josef Sailer, was able to expand the business in 1934 after the Second World War.

In 1995 the Hofbräuhaus Traunstein was one of the first breweries in Bavaria and nationwide to be certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 . The main focus is on the conception for adventure gastronomy. This is how the brewpub was created.
