Claus Hofmair († January 3, 1427 ), also Nikolaus Hofmair , was an Augsburg pharmacist .

Life

Some details about the life of Claus Hofmair have been handed down in Augsburg documents . The couple had at least four children: Claus, Elsbeth, Barbara and Afra are named. The son of the same name also became a pharmacist. According to the tax registers, Claus Hofmair was the only pharmacist in Augsburg for several decades. His father Friedrich is also listed as a pharmacist until 1358. The family house, known as the Marienapotheke, was located near the Moritzkirche.

An epitaph for him and his wife Barbara († January 4, 1457) can be seen in the St. Moritz Church in Augsburg . The Rotmarmorrelief on the west wall shows the deceased dressed in period costume between two coats of arms with crest . The epitaph is ascribed to the master Ulrich .
