The Hofrichterhaus ( Sorbian Dom dwórskeho sudnika ) in Bautzen was built in 1649 as part of the Ortenburg .

history

The court judges were Lusatian nobles who were appointed by the sovereign or governor. They exercised jurisdiction over aristocrats and notables. The high reputation of the court judge and the importance of his tasks, especially the drawing up of documents, explains the direct proximity to the stately houses.

If you pass the gate of the Matthias Tower , which was the only public access to the Ortenburg until the end of the 18th century, you only need a few steps to reach the Hofrichterhaus. On the way there you pass medieval walls, a stone bench and the former horse trough. What is striking about the now renovated house is the detailed chimney in the late Renaissance style and the gable . The term Esse is also used for chimney in Saxony .

The Hofrichterhaus was built on the rock above the Spreetal . It was also used as a detention cell, protected by the Spreetal, the guarded castle entrance and the supervisory path.

Today it serves as living space; the house is a listed building .

Exit port

During the Swedish double siege in 1639, the exit gate next to the court judge's house was created in the city wall . The Osterweg , which was used as a supervisory path for the castle, begins here . In addition, the gate established a connection between the castle and the part of the Seidau that has been part of the Burglehn since the Upper Lusatian Pönfall .
