The Protschenberg , Upper Sorbian Hrodźiško in Bautzen rises in the city center on the west side of the deep Spree valley , opposite the rocky plateau of Ortenburg . From the mountain there is a view of the old town of Bautzen. In addition to the Ortenburg and various towers, there is a view of the Osterweg, the Salzhaus and the Hofrichterhaus .

On the mountain there was a Bronze Age rampart of the Lausitz culture (1100–900 BC). This system was the first fortification in the area of today's city center; only later was the castle location relocated to the east side of the Spree. The Sorbian name ( hrodźišćo = castle wall) still reminds of this today .

Over the years, the spelling in German developed from Proczechenberg (1585) via Protzschenberg (1680), Brodschenberg and Proitschenberg to the current form.

The mountain was best known for the tradition of pushing Easter eggs . If you go up the mountain from Seidau , you will discover interesting things such as the hammer mill , the herb garden or the pillory on the Protschenberg steps.

The cemetery, inaugurated in 1789, which was used by the population of Seidau and the surrounding area, received a chapel in 1884. There are many names of fallen soldiers on the portal of the cemetery. In the cemetery were u. a. Jan Arnošt Smoler , Marko Smoler , Jan Cyž and Jurij Winar are buried.
