Jan Cyž ( Johann Ziesche ; born January 13, 1898 in Säuritz , † September 21, 1985 in Bautzen ) was a Sorbian lawyer , publisher and district administrator of the Bautzen district .

Life

After visiting the cathedral school in Bautzen and the German Gymnasium in Prague's Lesser Town , he studied at the Charles University Law . He also received his doctorate in this subject . From 1926 to 1932 he was head of the Cottbus branch of the Wendische Volksbank . Because of his work and his activities in the National Sorbian movements, he was imprisoned by the National Socialists in 1933 , but was released again after a short time. In between 1934 and 1937 he was editor of the Sorbian newspaper Serbske Nowiny and secured their appearance to the prohibition of the Domowina in 1937. During the Second World War came CYZ turn in Gestapo -haft until February 1945 when the bombing of Dresden in common escaped from prison with Jan Meškank .

In May 1945, after its re-establishment, he was briefly acting chairman of Domowina and was appointed district administrator of the Bautzen district by the Soviet headquarters . After his dismissal as district administrator on May 12, 1955 due to political differences with the Bautzen SED leadership, he worked as the editor of the Sorbian daily Nowa doba .

Cyž died in Bautzen in 1985. He was buried in the Smoler family grave on Protschenberg .

Works

In his later years Jan Cyž dealt with the life of Jan Arnošt Smoler and published his thoughts on the struggles for the liberation of Lusatia . In addition, he published three other souvenir volumes:
