The Hohe Brücke is a road bridge over the “Landgraben” in the “Gewann before the high bridge” on the north-western edge of the Griesheim district .

Construction and history

The single-arched sandstone bridge crosses the "Landgraben", which was built in the late Middle Ages and which still exists here as a remnant. The "Alte Dornheimer Weg", which connects the former residential city of Darmstadt with the castle in Dornberg , leads over the bridge .

In the keystone you can see the date 1749 and a Hessian lion . The bridge is around 5 m long and around 3 m wide. The sides of the bridge are bricked up about 0.5 m high above street level and about 0.4 m thick. The path over the bridge is paved with basalt .

Monument protection

Because of its importance for bridge construction technology and history, the Hohe Brücke is a listed building .
