history

At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century the village consisted of 6 farms, all of them farms, today only 3 former farms are farms. From 1949 to 1972 there was a municipality of Hohenweddrien. The former mayor Hermann Bunge still lives in Hohenweddrien and is the village elder. In 1972 the municipality was incorporated into the municipality of Rosche.

Origin of the name

In the municipality of Göhrde in the neighboring district of Lüchow-Dannenberg there is a village called "Weddrien", which is also located in the Drawehn moraine ridge , more precisely in a valley. Around the year 1390, some people from Weddrien migrated to the southwest (SW) and settled on the Hohe Weddrien, which they named so, and called the village Hohenweddrien, because of the Hohe Weddrien, which is 105 meters above sea level, differently than in their previous home, the valley.
