Holger Preuss

Holger Preuß (* 1968 in Tecklenburg ) is a sports economist and sports sociologist .

Life

After graduating from the Graf-Adolf-Gymnasium in Tecklenburg in 1988 , he completed his community service at the Diakonisches Werk in Tecklenburg, before starting his studies to become a certified trade teacher (in sports) at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Göttingen in 1990 . He interrupted his studies for a year during which he worked in the USA and studied at the International Olympic Academy in Olympia . He wrote his diploma thesis in sports science under Arnd Krüger ( The cost-benefit analyzes of the Olympic Games in Berlin in 2000 ). During his doctoral studies in Göttingen he was a research assistant for sports sociology at the University of Mainz from 1995 to 1998 . He received his doctorate in 1998 from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen under Arnd Krüger. From 1998 to 2002 he continued his work as a research assistant in Mainz before he became a research assistant for sports economics at the German Sport University Cologne in 2002 . In 2003 he was appointed to a junior professorship for sports economics at the University of Mainz. In 2006 and 2007 he was a substitute professor at the University of Frankfurt , before he was appointed professor for sports sociology and sports economics at the University of Mainz in 2008 after applications to the University of Leipzig and Bayreuth were rejected . He has been visiting professor at Beijing Sport University , the State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY), Molde University in Norway, the School of Business at the University of East London and the University of Ottawa .

Scientific work

Preuss is an expert in cost-benefit calculations for major sporting events and has advised both planners and organizers of the Olympic Games and European and World Cups .
