Holger Pukk

Holger-Feliks Pukk (born August 14, 1920 in Tallinn ; † March 12, 1997 ibid) was an Estonian author of young books.

Life

Pukk went to school in Tallinn and graduated from the commercial high school there in 1940 as an accountant. After a brief employment as a civil servant and accountant, he was mobilized into the Red Army and took part in the Second World War on the Soviet side . After the war he worked in the editorial department of the children's and youth magazine Säde ('Funken') from 1947 . He later switched to the magazines Pioneer ('Der Pionier') and Täneke ('Sternchen')

Pukk was a member of the CPSU from 1951 to 1990 and a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1955 .

Literary work

The first attempts at writing appeared in school almanacs, and Pukk published his first book in 1953. The author's early works are characterized by a certain loyalty to the line. However, he later freed himself from this ideological muzzle and wrote books that dealt with current problems, for example on juvenile delinquency.

Pukk's books have been translated into several languages. He himself translated from Russian.
