Holger Saarmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Holger Saarmann (* 1971 in Hagen ) is a German musician living in Berlin .

Life

He studied singing and guitar as part of a teaching degree (music, German studies ) at the University of Bamberg . After Klezmer projects in the 1990s, he made a name for himself since 2000 with predominantly German-language song and chanson evenings.

He mainly accompanies his singing on the concert guitar . On CD recordings he can also be heard on the accordion , flute and other instruments. Saarmann composes and writes his own songs, but also maintains a comprehensive repertoire of well-known and forgotten folk songs , which he processes for concerts and CD performances.

As a composer as well as an arranger, Saarmann likes to use baroque and classic - romantic composition techniques, but he also repeatedly resorts to popular styles ( folk , rock ). In his texts, which are sometimes formally reminiscent of classical ballads (in the sense of stories in verse), Saarmann tends to lyrical-enigmatic considerations with profound humor and philosophical-spiritual implications. In the genre of songwriters , Saarmann is stylistically to be found in the neighborhood of Christof Stählin , Gerhard Schöne and the Italian Angelo Branduardi .

Awards

In the summer of 2007, Holger Saarmann was awarded the Hanns Seidel Foundation's sponsorship award at Songs on a summer evening .
