The Holitna River is an approximately 180 km long left tributary of the Kuskokwim River in the southwestern interior of Alaska .
The river arises from the confluence of the Kogrukluk River and Shotgun Creek north of Wood-Tikchik State Park . It flows northward to the confluence with the Kuskokwim River 2 km south of Sleetmute .
The name of the native inhabitants for the river was recorded in 1829 by Lieutenant Sarichew "Khulitnak". Lieutenant LA Sagoskin of the Imperial Russian Navy wrote the spelling "Khulitnak" from 1842-44 and WS Post from the United States Geological Survey wrote in 1898 "Holitnuk".
