Holmes Reservation is a 26 acres (10.5 hectare ) nature reserve in the immediate vicinity of Plymouth city center, in the state of Massachusetts in the United States and administered by The Trustees of Reservations .
Protected area
The sanctuary, which consists of little more than open and expansive grass, is located north of central Plymouth just off Massachusetts Route 3A . There is a good view of Plymouth Harbor , Duxbury Beach , Clark's Island and Gurnet Point . Remains of the tracks of the Old Colony Railroad can also be seen.
Before the American War of Independence , the area served as a model place for farmers from the area.
The property was bequeathed to the trustees in 1944 by the local Holmes family and is named after them to this day.
