The farm belonged to 1999 from Boston coming artist Polly Thayer Starr , whose paintings and drawings for more than 70 years in galleries in Boston, New York and Philadelphia are issued.

The property, which dates back to the early 20th century, is still active today and is operated by the trustees, to whom Starr transferred the property before her death, as part of a program of solidarity agriculture that has existed since 2009 . The fields and pastures are surrounded by forests of oak and Virginian juniper . The Weir River flows through the northwest of the reserve . There are 1.5  mi (2.4  km ) of hiking trails available to visitors, including links to the adjacent Whitney and Thayer Woods Conservation Area , which in turn connects to Wompatuck State Park . The Weir River Farm is part of a contiguous chain of protected areas with a total extension of almost 5,000 acres (20.2 km²).
